Project Profile:
Built on a tiny subdivided plot in the South of Port-Gentil in Gabon, the site looks out to the Cape Lopez Bay and is literally under construction.
Designed for a small family with an important fleet of vehicles, the brief was to accommodate enough parking without compromising the tropical outdoor living.
The roughly finished building stretches across the plot in two parts. Living spaces are on the main wing raised on 3 floors and the entertainment and mechanical wing is located opposed to it, the two linked by an elevated outdoor seating area overlooking the parking spaces below.
Living spaces comprises of a lounge, a dining area, guest bathroom, kitchen with its storage room on the ground floor; a family/tv room and the master bathroom on the first floor; and the top floor contains two bedrooms and a full bathroom.
The entertainment area is located on the first floor accessible from the family/tv room, it opens on an elevated veranda with a floating concrete pool. The block houses a living studio for the security guard and the machinery room with the pool engine, water pump and the municipal electrical box.
By using most of the ground floor as parking and garden, the elevated entertainment deck offers views out to the majestic Cape Lopez Bay.
The project defies many local challenges. The limited budget, inspired the raw concrete finishing, the newness of the neighbourhood leaves a bitter taste of abandoned construction sites, this rough expression defines a new language where the “architecture of nakedness” does not necessarily mean unfinished building like many neighboring projects but suggests new aesthetics without borders.

Construit sur une minuscule parcelle subdivisée au sud de Port-Gentil au Gabon, le site donne sur la baie du Cap Lopez et le quartier est littéralement en construction.
Conçu pour une petite famille disposant d'un important parc de véhicules, l'objectif était de permettre suffisamment de places de stationnement sans compromettre la vie en plein air sous les tropiques.
Le bâtiment avec finitions brutes s'étend sur la parcelle en deux parties. Les espaces d’habitation se trouvent dans l'aile principale sur 3 étages. L'aile de détente et mécanique se trouve en face, les deux étant reliées par un véranda surélevé donnant sur le parking et jardin en-dessous.
Les espaces d’habitation comprennent un salon, une salle à manger, une salle de bain pour invités, une cuisine avec son magasin au rez-de-chaussée ; une salle familiale avec télévision et la chambre avec salle de bain principale au premier étage ; et le dernier étage contient deux chambres et une salle de bain complète.
La zone de divertissement est située au premier étage et est accessible depuis la salle familiale / de télévision. Elle s'ouvre sur une véranda surélevée avec une piscine flottante en béton. Le bloc abrite au niveau du sol un studio pour le gardien de sécurité et la salle des machines avec le moteur de la piscine, la pompe à eau et le boîtier électrique municipal.
En utilisant la majeure partie du rez-de-chaussée comme parking et jardin, la terrasse surélevée offre une vue sur la majestueuse baie de Cape Lopez.
Le projet relève de nombreux défis locaux. Le budget limité, a inspiré les finitions en béton brut, la nouveauté du quartier laisse un goût amer de chantiers de construction abandonnés, cette expression brute définit un nouveau langage où « l’architecture dénudée » ne signifie pas forcément une construction inachevée, contrairement à de nombreux projets voisins mais suggère une nouvelle esthétique sans frontières.
